When a project requires review, a translation that is submitted waits as In review until a reviewer or manager approves it or asks for changes. Only approved translations count as translated and are exported by default.
The Review page is only shown in the navigation when the project requires review. You need the reviewer or manager role to use it. See Workflow and Roles and permissions.
The life of a translation #
- A translator writes a translation and chooses Submit for review. Reviewers and managers of the project get an email (unless they switched it off).
- A reviewer opens the Review page and either approves the translation or requests changes.
- After Approve, the translation is Translated. It is added to the translation memory, and the person who submitted it gets an email if they turned on “Translation approved” under Account settings โ Notifications.
- After Request changes, the translation is Changes requested. The translator sees the comment above the translation in the editor, updates the text and submits it again.
By default nobody can approve a translation they submitted themselves. A project can allow it with Allow self-review.
The Review page #
static/screenshots/review-page.pngPick the branch and language at the top. The queue on the left lists, grouped by key group:
- translations waiting for review,
- translations with changes requested,
- translations approved in the last 7 days.
A progress bar shows how many items are reviewed and how many remain. Select an item to see the source text, the translation, who submitted it and when.
Below the translation you find:
- Notes for the key and its History. (A Screenshot tab exists, but screenshots cannot be attached to keys yet.)
- A Glossary conflict warning when a term in the source has competing translations in the glossary.
- The Discussion between translator and reviewer. Reply with

Decide #
| Action | Shortcut | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Approve | A | The translation becomes approved. |
| Request changes | R | You must write a comment that explains what needs to change. The translation goes back to the translator. |
| Skip | S | Moves on without a decision. |
Use โ and โ to move through the queue. See Keyboard shortcuts.
When every item in the queue is approved or has a request for changes, the page says the branch is ready to merge and links to Branches.
Review in the editor #
Reviewers see the same conversation in the Review discussion panel of the editor, so a comment can be added there too.
